Liberty by Christina Salazar

Sea Turtle Location: Beach Resort South Padre Island

I was made to commemorate the fallen and current first responders, including our military. The United States flag was incorporated to remind us all, we must continue to stand united and behind those first responders and military who have sacrificed their lives and that of their families, they leave behind.

DID YOU KNOW?

Seven species of sea turtles inhabit the world’s oceans: Kemp’s ridley, olive ridley, hawksbill, loggerhead, green, leatherback , and flatback. Each species inhabits U.S. waters with the exception of the flatback sea turtle.

All species are protected under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). To this day, no species has recovered enough to be completely removed from the ESA and some populations continue to decline.
